Looking To Purchase An LED Penlight? Three Factors You Should Pay Attention To When Purchasing One

About Me
Creating A Safer Work Environment

After I started becoming more and more interested in manufacturing, I realized that there was a real problem with the safety of a few big factories in the area. In addition to not using some of the most top-of-the-line safety features, the factories also had a pretty unimpressive track record as far as safety went, which is why I started thinking more seriously about becoming a manufacturing safety enthusiast. I started a few campaigns to strengthen things, and some of them actually made a palpable difference. This blog is all about creating a safer work environment for your employees and friends.

Looking To Purchase An LED Penlight? Three Factors You Should Pay Attention To When Purchasing One

LED penlights are used in a variety of circumstances by a variety of different people. Doctors often use LED penlights to check pupil dilation and reaction in patients, contractors use LED penlights to illuminate small or cramped places, and due to their lightweight and small size, hikers have started carrying penlights for an added source of light that does not take up much space. If you are looking to purchase an LED penlight, there are many factors you should pay attention to. Here are three of those factors.

The Number of Lumens the Light Gives Off

LED penlights may be small, but some can give off a great deal of light. When you are looking to purchase an LED penlight, consider how you plan to use the light and how much light you want the penlight to give off. The lumens given off by the LED light refers to the brightness of the light. The higher the number of lumens, the brighter the light will be. A bright light may be perfect for a mechanic or inspector who wants to illuminate a tight, cramped space. But a doctor may want a lower-lumen penlight to shine in a patient's eyes. Always carefully consider how much illumination you need, and then look for a penlight that fits the bill.

What Material the Casing Is Made From

Another important factor to consider when you are selecting an LED penlight is what material the casing is made from. LED penlights can have their casing, or the exterior, pen-like surface, made from stainless steel, aluminum, or plastic. Stainless steel is costly, but it can withstand abuse and can be santitized. Aluminum can also withstand some abuse, but it can rust. And plastic is inexpensive, but it can crack when dropped and fade in the sun. Consider where and how the light will be used when selecting a casing material.

How Many Hours of Life the Penlight Has

Lastly, pay close attention to how many hours of life the penlight has. Some penlights can last just a few hours, while others can last several. Also pay attention to whether the battery can be replaced. Cheaper penlights may not have a battery that can be replaced. When the penlight dies, the entire thing needs to be discarded. Others may have a battery that can be replaced.

Just like with flashlights, there are many differences among the different types of LED penlights that are manufactured and sold. Taking the time to pay attention to all of these factors will help you select the penlight that best meets your needs, based on how you plan to use it.
